THE FAMILY

The Rumolo family is a historic family from Caggiano, a pleasant village nestled in the mountains between Vallo di Diano and Lucania.

It has been a family of shepherds and farmers for over 3 generations: in the 1950s grandfather Angelo was a shepherd who owned a large flock of sheep that he took to graze every day on the mountains of Caggiano. It was a life full of sacrifices but also love for the earth, so much so that grandfather Angelo taught his sons Vittorio and Nicola and his grandchildren not only the secrets of the mountain but also the respect for the ecosystem in which they lived.

At the beginning of the 2000s the brothers Vittorio and Nicola Rumolo, already owners of Grotto Castello (the historic family pizzeria located at the foot of Caggiano Castle) decided to embrace a new project: a new place that concentrates beauty, nature, taste and hospitality.

Thus was born the idea of giving life to Le Grotticelle, a new business in which, once again, the families of the two Rumolo brothers will have to work side by side.

Le Grotticelle immediately became a place dedicated to good living that fully reflected their lifestyle and their philosophy of nutrition, devoted to beauty, goodness and fairness.

Together with the restaurant business, the Rumolo family has also continued to follow the vocation to agriculture with La Carlina Farm.

La Carlina is the farm of the Rumolo family and from it most of the ingredients used in our cuisine and in the toppings of the pizzas come.

La Carlina farm has over 500 olive trees – from which we get our extra virgin olive oil – and a mountain garden where we grow vegetables, potatoes and the hay we use to refine our cheeses.

In our farm we not only cultivate but also produce artisanal cured meats such as salami, soppressata, guanciale, coppa and lard which we serve on our cutting boards.

Among the activities that we carry out with the La Carlina farm there is also the maturing of the local caciocavallo cheese, which we leave to age in our caves.
